July 29 show - Do your homework!
MistaMan does the damn thing at VerseWorks.
On July 29 we saw a lot of the usual crew plus some new faces as we hosted an open mic. I (Chris) had given out a “homework assignment” – write and perform an impassioned piece, a change-the-world piece – about something entirely mundane.
Chimera came through with a poem singing the praises of the travel-sized lint roller. Dayna reminded us how useless sporks are. Jessica, aka BlackMadonna, gave us the lowdown on so-called “cool people”.
[Wait a minute. BlackMadonna was there?]
Damn right she was. That what you get for sleepin’ on us, fool.
Um. I mean. Yeah, she was there. We had quite a few people do the homework assignment, but in the end, it was MelO taking home the prize – Play Doh™, a crazy hula girl bobble hat thingy, and one sheet of schweet cute fuzzy duck stickers – with her poem about the intense pressures of ordering at a restaurant.
We also had three people hit the mic for the very first time. Thanks, MistaMan, Sista Chris, and Matthew!
We’re ripping the video to YouTube. Several are already up. Go check it out, and we’ll see you tomorrow night!
